does cbd oil get you high

Does CBD Get You High?

Plenty of debate has gone around the question, will CBD will get you high? The short answer is no, CBD does not get you high.

Internationally, CBD is recognized as an effective method of treatment for epilepsy and a myriad of other medicinal uses by the world health organization.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid commonly found in the Cannabis plant. We can medicate with Cannabis, and that gets us high. So that means cannabinoids get us high….right? Not really, let's talk about it.

Cannabinoids are Key

The chemical compounds in cannabis that determine what effects we get are called the Cannabinoids. Each strain and plant has a different chemical makeup that can contain a number of different Cannabinoids.

There are over 100+ cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis that offer a plethora of medicinal qualities. Two of them are more prevalent and spark much of the conversation around the topic, which are.

  • THC - tetrahydrocannabinol: the psycho-active compound that creates the "intoxicating" feeling of cannabis.
  • CBD - cannabidiol: the super-effective medicinal compound that is only beginning to be researched, found in cannabis but also hemp.

The other are major cannabinoids that have important roles to play; they are: CBG, CBC, CBGV, THCV, CBDV, and CBCV but are not discussed in length.

Even one plant of Blue Dream could taste and affect you dramatically different than another plant of the Blue Dream strain based on what cannabinoids are in the plant.

Synthetic versions of THC and CBD have been created in the form of drugs (such as Marinol). Although extensive research was done for those drugs, users reported the preference of a full-plant cbd product instead. Researchers discovered the "cannabis entourage effect" after mixing THC with CBD which lead to much better results than standalone CBD.

Where does CBD come From?

CBD can be extracted from industrial hemp the same way it can be separated from cannabis. The biggest difference between CBD oil from hemp and cbd oil from cannabis is the legislation that surrounds the plant it's extracted from.

Industrial hemp based CBD products have no THC and are therefor federally legal, which allows them to be widely available.

How does CBD make you feel, if its not "high"?

Many, many people perceive feelings differently so asking “how will cbd make me feel?” is hard to answer; but the short-answer is that CBD affects everyone differently. It will not make you feel as if you smoked a joint, like back in college. Try, it makes waking up easier, and going to bed too; even relief during any day, stressful or not.

The mood-altering feelings you experience after using cannabis are from the cannabinoid THC which are the psycho-active effects. By mimicking the naturally occurring neurotransmitter, anandamide, enables the THC chemical structure to bind to our naturally occurring cannabinoid receptors; Which influence brain areas concerning pleasure, memory, thinking, movement, concentration, and coordination. THC triggers our brain's reward system, boosting levels of dopamine to higher than typical amounts leaving us feeling…high. CBD is not that.

CBD hardly effects the same receptors as THC does, meaning CBD won't make you feel high as something with any amount of THC would.

Will CBD make me fail a drug test?

Recent research on CBD oil shows that the majority of CBD may contain traces of THC, but unless specified the THC content is usually minuscule.. but enough to fail a drug test.

Benefits of a CBD oil regiment

Adults, and even toddlers are being treated with CBD oil or tincture for their epilepsy, and the results are showing a tremendous improvement in all cases. The laundry list is littered with issues that can be curbed with the compound such as PTSD, fibromyalgia, endometriosis, Parkinson's, and M.S. to get started.

Not only such debilitating conditions as severe epilepsy benefit from treatment with CBD. CBD holds a therapeutic value that can treat a lot of everyday issues:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Inflammation
  • Pain
  • Addiction
  • Other psychiatric uses...

Acting on receptors such as serotonin receptors, dopamine, and opioid receptors; CBD has been used to help curb or drown out cravings of former addicts, or those transferring off of an opioid pain medication with promising results for the future.

CBD Helps to Maintain (and is non-recreational)

It doesn't get you “high,” but it sure does a lot more than you thought. CBD oil is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating, which makes driving a non-issue.

Some people sense improvements after their initial dose which is usually not the case, it takes about a week or two. As you continue to use, the effect will continue to compound for as long as a regular regimen is taken like any other supplement.

On the other hand, patients with glaucoma for example, do not pair well with CBD and it makes the symptoms much worse.

Our recommendation is speak to your doctor before self-medicating. Even if the only reason is to make sure CBD does not interfere with any other medications you may be already taking, better safe than sorry.
